DETAILED TOUR TIMELINE

• Spend the Day at a Local's House - An Authentic Culinary Experience

  This tour is focusing on You experiencing a day in a real Cretan house in a traditional village located in the mountainous region of Heraklion, some 35 km from the town.

  You will become an active member of the family for the day and do togehter with the family members some of the things they do in their everyday life,  from making your Cretan coffee yourself and bake bread in the wood oven,  to cooking and enjoying delicious food and wine and even participate into farming activities.  

• Join in Farming Family Activities and more

  Some of the local activities you will participate in are :

  – Brew Greek coffee on hot sand

  – Make and bake bread in the wood oven

  – Experience goats milking and sheep shearing (seasonal experience)

  – Prepare and cook a traditional dish yourself 

  – Find out all about the traditional Raki distillation process

  – Visit a local dairy

  – Participate in farming

• Taste Local Products

  You will try local wine and raki – traditional spirit based on grapes- and you will find out all about the process of Raki making in the house’s two hundred years old still. You will try mountain tea, various herbs and spices, local honey, homemade marmalades and fruit punches and delicious cheese from the local dairy.

• Cook and Learn

  You will prepare and cook together with the family a Cretan traditional starter and you will see how the ladies of the house cook the special Cretan “antikristo” lamb. That is a traditional way of cooking lamb slowly on vertical grills upon a hearth. Your meal will be based on a three course traditional menu with organic ingrediences, right from the family’s garden, while different types of local wine/water/ beverage are also included. 

• Visit beautiful Sites and Vineyards

  You can stroll in the village and explore the old traditional architecture, reach an orthodox church with a panoramic view, and wander among ancient oak trees in the nearby nature park.

  You can visit ancient wine presses which date back to Roman times and if you feel like going deeper into ancient eras, the ancient Archaic town of “Risinia” of the early 7^th century B.C. is there to astonish you with the earliest known Greek Temple decorated with sculpture, which revealed two monumental statues of seated Goddesses.

• Participate in Seasonal Agricultural Events

  From July to October we invite you to participate in Wine Making and Grape Stomping in a traditional wine press.

  From October to December we invite you to actively participate in the Raki Distillation.
