Upon Request: Mochlos Island: the amazing Minoan port town
You will reach the island of Mochlos by a small boat. On the island, you will explore one of the most important Minoan sites on Crete, flourishing port town and ancient trading center.
The excavations on Mochlos brought to light a plethora of unique findings, Minoan shrines, workshops and a pre-palatial cemetery. Mochlos had become a magnet and center for new industries, including the manufacture of gold jewelry, stone vases and faience 4.000 years ago.
Additionally, the presence of workshops in Mochlos using raw materials like gold, implies trading relations beyond the island of Crete. The excavations are still active, conducted by the American Archaeology school.
