• Hike a stunning Gorge

  You will start your day visiting Avlaki Katholiko Gorge, one of the most important gorges in Crete, with a particular religious value. Avlaki Gorge is located near Gouverneto Monastery.

  You will hike a small yet impressive canyon, starting from the Monastery of Our Lady of Angels Gouverneto. The Gorge once served as a safe haven to the monks and hermits. This is a moderate hike of 30 minutes, passing through stunning rocky landscapes by the sea.

• Explore unique Medieval Monuments

  Inside the small canyon, you will reach the Katholiko Monastery. You will have the chance to admire the centuries-old Monastery, built literally on on the the rocks, which once was of great significance.

  You will also meet the cave of Arkoudiotissa with the ancient temple of Artemis. A bit further, the gorge has more treasures for you to discover! Such a treasure is the cavernous church of St. John the Hermit, who lived here.

• Discover a marvellous Rocky Fjord

  You will walk along the riverbed and reach the exit of the gorge to the sea. The end of your trail has one more treasure for you to explore! This is a narrow and rocky fjord with deep blue waters.
