• Visit a Traditional Village Off the Beaten Path

  This tour will take you to a traditional village in South Central Crete, and present to you the customs and lifestyle of one of the most authentic parts of the island. Your experience will start visiting the historic Monastery of St. Irene, one of the oldest monasteries on Crete, mentioned in manuscripts of the 16th century. The Monastery’s long history, as well as its beautiful architecture and decoration, will take you back to the past centuries.

• Learn about the Traditional Musical Instruments & Feel the Music!

  You will reach the Museum of Traditional Musical Instruments, where you will be welcomed with live traditional music and local treats. In the museum, you will have the chance to listen to several musical instruments, watch the local lyre players play live music and try yourselves to play simple Cretan rhythms.

  You will also learn simple traditional dances steps with the help of your instructors! Each and every instrument – exhibit of the museum will be interactively introduced to you! In the Museum’s yard, a wonderful short Cooking demonstration will follow. Your hosts will show you how to make Cretan Pies yourselves right on the spot!

• Explore the Village Architecture & Try Local Products

  You will enjoy a walk around the picturesque alleys of the village and explore its traditional architecture and historic churches. Feel free to admire the Byzantine frescoes, typical of the Byzantine religious Art. You will also have the chance to try local products, such as organic olive oil and wine.  In the village’s oldest butcher shop, you will have the chance to taste “graviera” cheese, one of the finest dairy products of Crete.

• Enjoy a Delicious Lunch

  Your Experience will sum up with a delicious, family style lunch in a traditional tavern, in the village. You will enjoy typical local specialties, made of pure, organic local ingredients.
